About the Association
The Cable Telecommunications Association of New York, Inc. (CTANY), is the trade association of New York State's cable television companies and their telecommunications subsidiaries. Founded in 1956, CTANY is one of the oldest cable trade associations. It maintains its office in Albany, the state capital.
CTANY consists of member companies operating cable TV systems that serve nearly 5 million cable households -- 98 percent of New York's cable subscribers. CTANY also represents programming networks and vendors who constantly deliver the highest quality cable programming, broadband internet, and digital phone service.
A board of directors comprised of cable executives from companies across the state oversees the Association’s staff and activities. Under the Association's by-laws, each of the four largest cable companies that serve at least 5 percent of the total number of subscribers served by the members are automatically entitled to one board seat. Five additional at-large directors may be elected by the membership for staggered 3-year terms. Associate members elect two board members annually. The president of the Association and the immediate past chairman also serve on the board.
Through the years, CTANY has represented its members before the New York State Commission on Cable Television, the State Board of Equalization and Assessment, the Public Service Commission, and other state regulatory agencies, before the state Legislature and the United States Congress, at the Federal Communications Commission, and in courts of law. The Association continues to keeps its members informed through meetings, newsletters and reports on important issues affecting the cable television industry. CTANY staff members also participate in regional visits to cable systems to meet with CTANY members and to stay apprised of issues of concern.
Each spring, CTANY sponsors a Legislative Conference at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. The Association further serves its members with informational seminars on topics of interest to cable operators. CTANY was among the first cable television associations to unite systems in a statewide cablecast network.
In addition, CTANY maintains a web site at www.cabletvny.com to offer Internet browser’s up-to-date industry information, links to our associate member programmers and vendors, links to trade publications and industry organizations, and other pertinent information. Included at the website is a members-only password protected area which serves as a resource for CTANY members. At this site, members can access all sorts of material, including legal memos, press releases, testimony and timely regulatory and legislative information. |
